About the Sweetery

Mandie C’s Sweetery, founded in February 2020 by Amanda “Mandie C” Carlson, started as an idea to make people smile through decorated cookies. We flourished from a few flavors to hundreds across different products and thousands of smiles shared. No matter how bad of a day you are having, a sweet treat and a warm smile can make it all better!

Starting from helping Momma C year after year with Christmas cookies to make family friends smile, to making 3-pound trays of treats with friends for the firefighters in the city to say thank you, baking has always been a joyous part of our lives.

When starting the sweetery, the core purpose was to make someone’s day a little bit sweeter and make their sunshine a little bit brighter. All that is made is made with love and in small batches by hand- not by machine in large batches to sit on shelves for weeks with preservatives to keep them “fresh.” As we continue to grow our selections, freshness and safety remain our top priority, being closely followed by Taste and Quality.

About Mandie

Owner and Head Baker/Decorator

Baking was not always a strong suit. A passion and interest, sure! But definitely not a strong suit. Crazy, right? My love for baking started when I was young. Every Christmas, my mother would always make a billion different types of cookies, brownies, fudge. Anything that was baked, or cooked, we would most likely make. A billion is an exaggeration, but it was probably close to three dozen different treats for friends and family. All to make them smile.

Fast forward to High School, senior year specifically. I had so little classwork and my school was so cool, baking counted as class hours. Teenagers dream to be able to do something other than homework and having it count towards class time. I did it. I was also home all the time (#OnlineSchoolingBeforeItWasTheNorm).

I started loving baking so much that a few friends and I made lovely, 3-pound, treat trays for all of the fire stations in Worcester, MA (all 10 of ‘em). The decoration on the cookies definitely looked nothing like the cookies I make now, but we had fun doing it.

I went to college to be a teacher for all of 4 months. In January 2020, I had a terrifying conversation with my parents that I wanted to drop out of college. Now, it wasn’t terrifying because my parents are scary or anything. I was terrified of them being disappointed in me. Pleasantly, they weren’t. They were highly supportive of it.

So in February 2020, I decided I was going to start a small bakery. Initially, it was going to be desserts of different cultures. As much as I loved the idea, I decided to try my hand at decorating sugar cookies. With that idea, I wanted to be different, so I bought some different extracts from the grocery store to play around with. After settling on “Mandie C’s Sweets and Treats,” I started making flavored sugar cookies. Almond, lemon, coffee, orange. All went surprisingly well for the taste tests. I then changed the name to “Mandie C’s Sweetery” and thought the wordplay was catchy and easy to remember.

Our first breakthrough was in March 2020 (days before the world shut down). Turned out my dad was friends with the right person who wanted to take a chance on my business, and two days later, I met a very lovely gentleman by the name of Marco. Now, Marco was my first “business interaction,” which was horrifying as a 19-year-old. All the waitstaff loved the cookies, which was a huge confidence boost.

Fast forward to August, when we did our first vendor fair. We had four flavors, five designs, 12 of each design, and a very, very sad table display. Where we could only put one of each cookie out, it was pathetic. We then had three very successful, full table shows in October when things had slowed down a little bit.

Today, we offer various flavors of cookies in a variety of themes. I am my limit for what we do. We now have decorated cookies, dippers, and snack-tivities such as Paint-Your-Own Cookies and Decorate-Your-Own Cookie Kits. While we continue to grow our offerings with mini cakes, cupcakes, whoopie pies, cake pops, brownies, and more treats to enjoy, we refuse to sacrifice our quality. If we are not proud of what we have done, we will not sell it.

We have had a variety of successful vendor fairs, and have places in various new ones, as well as multiple fundraiser opportunities for schools and other organizations.

We continue to grow and expand, all thanks to those of you who have taken the chance on us and loved that you did. Thank you for all of the support you have given us during such a rough patch for the world.
